Many people don't know that the Texas Medicaid program will provide a hearing aid for qualified recipients.
Some people have heard about the program, but are unable to find an audiologist or hearing aid professional
who is participating in the program.
If you or someone you know qualifies for Medicaid in Texas and needs a hearing aid, Hearing Haven will help you find
out where and how to get it.

Here are several of the pre-requisites to qualifying for a hearing aid paid for by Medicaid in Texas:
1) You must be 21 years old or older. Those younger than 21 years old go through a different program. (PACT)
2) You must be examined by a physician and receive a Physician's Examination Report (sometimes known as a B.43)
Contact us if you need a copy of this form to take to your physician.
3) The Physician's Examination Report is your "referral" to get a hearing evaluation. The hearing evaluation
should be done by a qualified person under the Texas Medicaid rules. Contact Hearing Haven to help you locate someone in
your area to arrange for a hearing evaluation.
4) If the hearing evaluation shows that your hearing loss is great enough, the participating hearing healthcare professional can submit a claim
to the Texas Medicaid Department for a hearing aid.
5) The physician's examination and the hearing test should show that you have a medical necessity for a hearing instrument,
and that there are no medical reasons to prevent you from wearing one. You do not have to determine this yourself. The physician
and the hearing evaluation will determine this, and will be part of the claim submitted to Medicaid.
6) Medicaid will pay for one hearing aid every six years. They will not pay for two hearing instruments, except in some cases
in which the individual is legally blind.
7) Other rules or restrictions may apply. It is important to work with someone who is familiar with the Texas Medicaid rules,
as they will be better able to help you get a hearing aid by submitting the claim properly.
